Scholarship Information
Scholarship Policy
At this time, it is the policy of the City of Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department to enable children of lower-income families to participate in City recreation programs by granting limited scholarships.
Do I Qualify?
Scholarships will only be awarded to families who demonstrate a financial need. Applicants can demonstate financial need by showing proof of Free/Reduced Lunch Determination or Self-Declare that they are at or below 80% of AMI based on the household size as listed on the Affordable Income Limits by Household Size as set forth by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
How Much Can I Get?
Scholarships cover 50% of program costs and are limited to one program per participant. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and scholarships will be awarded based on available funding.
Limitations
Each child eligible for a scholarship will receive a maximum of one scholarship during the program season. The same child may enroll in several sessions during that season, but will only receive a scholarship for one of those sessions. At this time, scholarships are awarded on a "per child basis" rather than a "per family basis"; therefore, multiple children in the same family may receive scholarships during the same season, but only one per child.
Scholarships must be submitted 3 business days prior to registration date of programs.
Registration must be done over the phone or in person for the program you are applying the scholarship towards.
Approval Process
Applications will be approved by the Parks and Recreation Director or designee prior to awarding any scholarships. While eligibility is being determined, families will be required to pay the applicable program fees, presuming the scholarship will be awarded at 50%. Once eligibility has been approved, and the amount of the scholarship confirmed, the family will be invoiced for any remaining fee balance.
