Scholarship Policy
At this time, it is the policy of the City of Spokane Valley Parks and Recreation Department to enable children of lower-income families to participate in City recreation programs by granting limited scholarships.
Do I Qualify?
Scholarships will only be awarded to children who reside in the City of Spokane Valley and who qualify for free or reduced lunches at school. If children are below school age, their eligibility will be determined by the eligibility of an older sibling currently living in the same household. Eligibility for homeschooled children and preschool children without older siblings will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
How Much Can I Get?
Up to 50% off the total cost of the session.
Limitations
Each child eligible for a scholarship will receive a maximum of one scholarship during the program season. The same child may enroll in several sessions during that season, but will only receive a scholarship for one of those sessions. At this time, scholarships are awarded on a "per child basis" rather than a "per family basis"; therefore, multiple children in the same family may receive scholarships during the same season, but only one per child.
Verifying Eligibility
Free or reduced school lunch status, and therefore scholarship eligibility, will be verified through the schools prior to awarding any scholarships. While eligibility is being determined, families will be required to pay the applicable program fees, presuming the scholarship will be awarded at 50%. Once eligibility has been verified, and the amount of the scholarship confirmed, the family will be invoiced for any remaining fee balance.
