Friday, September 26, 2025
Continuing the ongoing partnership with the City of Spokane Valley for the America 250 Celebration, on September 26, the Jonas Babcock, May Hutton, and Spokane Garry Chapters Daughters of the American Revolution and Spokane Chapter #1 Sons of the American Revolution hosted a Revolutionary War Bus Trip for 115 Opportunity Elementary 5th-grade students and staff. They were treated to a presentation at the Patriots Plaza, at South Pines Cemetery, by the State President of the Children of the American Revolution, of a number of young people from ages 10 to 17 who gave service during the War and the story behind the crack in Plymouth Rock. They were met by members in colonial dress and given postcards with photos of all signers of the Constitution and QR codes for the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence as they boarded the bus for the next stop, the SAR Flag Museum. At the museum, they learned about the history of the American flag and were able to see and have explained to them many artifacts of the time. When they boarded the bus for the trip back to the school, they were gifted with a small American Flag. According to reports, even the teachers admitted they learned something new! The DAR and SAR are planning many activities to include the community in learning opportunities during the semiquincentennial.
