What Is the Comprehensive Plan?
The Spokane Valley Comprehensive Plan is the city's master plan for the future, outlining how the city will grow, develop and serve the community over the next 20 years. The Comprehensive Plan is Spokane Valley's adopted guide for planning the city's future. It establishes goals and policies to help the City make informed decisions. This blueprint represents the community's values and priorities, guiding the City in addressing growth, challenges and opportunities for the next 20 years. It covers critical topics like:
- Housing and neighborhoods
- Parks and open space
- Transportation and traffic
- Natural resources
- Land use
- Economic development
- Environmental quality
- City services and infrastructure
A comprehensive plan is a required document for the largest and fastest-growing cities and counties in Washington State. The Comprehensive Plan and FEIS are an integrated document and intended to meet the city’s mandated periodic update requirements.
The plan helps
- Determine how land will be utilized, where houses, companies, parks and public buildings ought to be located
- Provide a framework for investing in roads, utilities and public services
- Recognize strategies to promote a healthy economy and thriving neighborhoods
- Bring together local goals and state requirements, including Washington’s Growth Management Act
Updating the Comprehensive Plan ensures that Spokane Valley is prepared to meet current and future needs and that decisions about development and public spending are rooted in what matters most to the people who live and work here.
