Pines Road, Mission Avenue Construction Starts April 15
Major Spokane Valley intersection being upgraded
City of Spokane Valley, WA – One of the City of Spokane Valley’s most traveled intersections, Pines Road and Mission Avenue, is about to be reconstructed. To keep pace with increasing travel volumes, the Pines Road and Mission Avenue intersection project will increase safety, reduce congestion and improve overall traffic flow.
Construction is slated to begin on April 15 and wrap up in August, depending on factors such as favorable weather, construction impacts, or other unforeseen circumstances. Most construction activities will take place at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to minimize traveler impacts. The second phase of construction, expected to begin around May 17, will take place during the day between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Improvements will include:
- A dedicated right-turn lane on southbound Pines Road for motorists turning west onto Mission Avenue
- Two dedicated left-turn lanes on eastbound Mission Avenue directing motorists onto northbound Pine Road
- Re-stripe the intersection to change the thru-left lane on westbound Mission Avenue into a dedicated left-turn lane onto southbound Pines Road
- Modify traffic signal operations to improve traffic flow through the intersection and reduce congestion
- Stormwater dry well installation and catch basin improvements
During construction, travelers can expect temporary lane restrictions, reduced speeds and traffic delays. The intersection will generally remain open throughout construction, and business and residential access will remain open. Signage will be in place to help direct travel through the construction zone and detours when needed.
