Where Does the City’s General Fund Come From?

The two largest revenue sources are sales tax and property tax, which are collectively estimated to account for 81% of 2025 General Fund recurring revenues.

$33.0M General Sales Tax

The City receives less than one percent (0.85%) of sales tax paid on purchases in Spokane Valley. The distribution of the 8.9% of sales tax collected is:

  • 6.5% State of Washington
  • 0.85% City of Spokane Valley
  • 0.80% Spokane Transit Authority
  • 0.15% Spokane County
  • 0.10% Criminal Justice
  • 0.10% Spokane Public Facilities District
  • 0.10% Juvenile Jail
  • 0.10% Law Enforcement Communications
  • 0.10% Mental Health

$14.1M Property Tax

The City receives 8.4% of the total property tax collected. The City Council once again voted not to take the annual 1% increase allowed by state law, as they have done for the past 16 years. The distribution in the city’s largest property tax district (TCA 11) is:

  • 23% State schools
  • 31% Central Valley School District
  • 26% Spokane Valley Fire District
  • 8% City of Spokane Valley
  • 8% Spokane County
  • 4% Spokane County Library District
